As I write this I am in Jacksonville, Florida where we are conducting a Board orientation and annual strategic planning session for the NAA Leadership. Today is the day of the Eclipse. I was kind of bummed when I realized I was going to be gone from Lawrence, KS (which is REALLY close to the path of totality) and instead would be in Jacksonville, which ONLY has 90% of the eclipse (ONLY!).

The annual Day on the Hill: our “Trip to Tallahassee” is scheduled for Wednesday, April 12, 2017.  This event is for ALL members of the association and provides an opportunity for you to visit your Senator and Representative in his/her Tallahassee office, as a part of the organized trip.  Given the current bills in both the House and the Senate to Deregulate the Auction Profession, is it vital that we all support our association and our industry.

Florida Senate Bill 802 / Florida House Bill 7047 Impact Auctioneers

Chad Johnson Florida Auctioneer #myersjacksonphotos] Fellow Auctioneers!  There is a bill in the Senate, SB 802, and a companion bill in the House, that deregulates the auction industry. This bill is Sponsored by Senator Passidomo of Naples, and was filed on February 8. SB 802 passed the Regulated Industries Committee on Wednesday March 8. Three FAA Board members attended the hearing and spoke in opposition.  SB 802 will be heard in the Judiciary Committee, and possibly the Rules Committee in the coming weeks.

Roll Call of the Presidents, Hall of Fame, Top Speakers at FAA abounds with Florida Auctioneers

The Florida Auctioneers started the annual conference with the Roll Call of the Presidents. To put it another way, the 50th annual conference rolled in with two pioneers of the Florida Auction Industry positioned to speak. Marty Higginbotham and Benny Fisher calls roll for 50 past presidents of the association. The announcements start the annual conference on the other had the names of leaders since 1967 shared the moment. Then Marty and Benny names each one with a short bio. In all, each person highly recognized for many achievements of the past half century.

I’d like to start off by saying that I stumbled into the auction industry by accident and it changed my life, for the better of course. My name is David D. Dybas and while working my boring 9 to 5 job at a Central Florida retail nursery for the better part of ten years, I thought this is my life and I had better get used to it. That is until a, let’s say “lucky day” when a bunch of suits came into the store, sat us down and proceeded to inform us that the company had filed for bankruptcy, the stores would be liquidating all the assets and everyone would lose their jobs after the sale.
